Fire Bath in the Cauldron Claw

Here are some images and drawings for the Cauldron Claw project, if you haven't seen the movie about this project yet, we highly recommend you to do so: http://thegoldbrain.blogspot.com/2009/01/caldron-claw-movie.html, please have patience while watching, it will pay off.

Cauldron Claw

Building process, carried out by a 85-year old welder in northern Sweden during the coldest month so that we could transport it smoothly through the woods while there was snow on the ground.
Prototype drawing; three custom made steel legs holds the heavy tub and is later placed in a local stream.
A perforated steel plate hangs underneath where you can make a fire to heat up the tub.
A fourth leg regulates the flow of water to the tub.

Heating up

The stream under the tub gives the fire a steady flow of air through perforations in the steel plate

Superhero Ambition

Visiondivision are involved in the design of a garage for a private client.
The client wants to do a tunnel 40 meter inside of a mountain to be able to park his car there and take an elevator six floors up to his private house.
The ambition alone demands a design for a superhero.
We cannot tell you more about this project right now, but we can give you a sneak peek of a possible outcome.

Cauldron Claw - The Movie

Visiondivision makes a flaming bathtub for an old man.

An old welder wanted a bath in his childhood creek in the deep forests of Northern Sweden.
Old metal scrap was welded together and fused as legs to a bath tub from the WWI.
Custom made metal hooks carry a perforated steel plate that hangs over the creek, where you put logs to heat the water inside the tub.
A metal sheet regulates the flow of water from the creek to the tub.
The project was carried out during winter time so that we could transport the heavy structure on the hard snow all the way to the site.
The old welder will take a bath in his cauldron claw as soon as the snow melts away.
Drawings and additional images will come soon.

Los perros de Buenos Aires

2008-04-15

Suddenly there are thirty dogs in shiny red capes walking around in one of the districts of Buenos Aires.
The architects behind this visual improvement are visiondivision, but they haven’t done this merely for their own sake, the project is about improvement of these animals.

With a classy scarf with a name printed on them, we baptized the dogs we came across, gave them food and a personal red plate.
Hopefully the people around them will be more aware of these dogs and be more kind and generous towards them, and the Barrio will have the most prominent stray dogs of South America.

The project started out in Once in Buenos Aires, which is the garment district of the city.We chose a proper shiny fabric and had it cut up in 75x75 cm squares, 40 pieces.

Then we made up a bunch of classy Argentinean dog names and had those printed on the fabric with a rubber technique in a printing shop nearby.

After that we went to a shop where they attached buttons on the scarves.

We signed them and had them on a display in a local mall, and then we practised to speed-button the scarves on Argentina’s national monument, The Obelisk in the smack centre of Buenos Aires on the widest avenue in the world.

We also bought plates in matching colours.

Only the best ham was selected and also some high quality dog food.

So this is how it works: We went to the outskirts of Buenos Aires and selected a stray dog, gave him food on a red plate and then we put on a scarf with a suitable name on the dog.
By giving a nameless dog a name and some fancy threads, the chances is that the public will be more aware of just that dog and continue to feed him and treat him better.

Our trustful assistant Pablo shows the proper way of attaching the scarf. The very first dog of becoming baptized was Mercedes, a dog full of energy and charm.

Weiss, kind and calm.

Evita, a curious dog with a limp.

Bronco & Nestor, hard to get friends with at first.

Palermo & Ricky.

Bartolomé.

Juan Esteban.

Piti.

Dr. Faustino, seemed nice at first.

Don, a nearly blind dog.

Bruno, fast as the lightning. Some locals helped us baptize this one.

Carlos.

Franz Paco.
Lola, likes to chase cars.
Pancho.
Carmencita.

Mirror woods

We were hired by the Swedish architectural firm "Tema" to cooperate with them in an invited competition for a housing project in Örnsköldsvik, the Swedish Mecca of Ice Hockey.
The prices on apartments in northern Sweden are fairly low since there are a lot of available empty houses in that region, so the proposal needed to be cost efficient. While the floor plan were designed as efficient and simple as possible with cheap extravaganzas such as sight lines, zoning and so on, we put our efforts on making something unique with the outdoor spaces. Since the houses are laid out pointing towards the sea, they create a sloping space towards the ocean which in this case where filled with birch trees. We tried to make a façade that mimic the aesthetics of the birch trunk to get a building that corresponded with its surrounding environment. We put highly reflective and slightly tilted steel sheets between the windows, making a façade that mimic the pattern of a birch trunk and at the same time reflected the birch trees in the voids between the buildings. The result became quit poetic we must say.

Mellom

We were assigned to do a small fire place in an apartment in Stockholm among some other interior challenges. We decided to make the fireplace a fairytale one. The fire place is painted with heat sensitive paint so when the chimney gets heated up, a gold glimmering text will reveal itself showing recipes and other proposals how to use the fire place. The fire place where also equipped with some accessories to make cooking and fire place activities more easy.
